Lightweight in size and customization

An Android launcher with an install size under 3MB? You've got to be kidding, right? No my friend, I'm not. APUS Launcher is just about the lightest launcher I've seen, and thankfully it still manages to deliver a useful experience.

Replace your original launcher

One of the best features for Android is the ability to download and change launchers. So regardless of the device you're using, you can get a different experience. APUS Launcher is a small and light launcher that if designed less for customization and more for streamlining your experience.

APUS is designed to reorganize your device to make it easier to find installed apps, contacts, and discover new apps that APUS thinks you will like. It can also add homescreen notifications for phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and Gmail.

In a recent update, APUS Launcher added Free Swipe, an option to browse recently opened apps, and APUS Newsfeed. Newsfeed is a curated feed that shows news and games that are trending. But be aware that some of that content may be curated by APUS for downloads. In version 1.8.4, APUS includes an update: "Cool the heating phone quickly." It's not known how the launcher is able to do this other than throttling your CPU which could slow the phone down.

But it's strange that APUS Launcher has its own suggested apps meaning there's probably a reason why APUS is showing you "suggested" apps to install. They're getting paid for showing these suggestions.

Not enough customization

For anyone who wants to really customize their Android device, APUS Launcher isn't the replacement to use. There are very limited options included and APUS Boost's promise to speed up a device is questionable.

Android users with newer devices running Android 4.3+ Jelly Bean or Android 5.0+ Lollipop should not install the launcher because stock launchers already feature customization optimizations. People who are still running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 might want to take a look at APUS Launcher though.

An alternative for older devices

APUS Launcher is a small and lighweight launcher. But it does lack the customization power of Nova Launcher or even GO Launcher. If you do want to use APUS Launcher, keep in mind that you will be trading customization options for speed.

PROS

  • Small install
  • Sort apps
  • Optimize search

CONS

  • You can't remove folder/app icons
  • Very limited customization options

    Not recommended.
Doesn't play nicely with other launchers and hides too many options, including the one to remove it.
